How many children are in the class and what is the age range?
Each class has from seven to fourteen children enrolled. Your child may bring any number of adults with them. Our Music Together® classes embrace a mixed-age philosophy. We believe that young children learn best in a mixed age setting so we invite children birth through six to attend our mixed age classes.
What can I expect from class?
Music Together® is designed for children ages birth through kindergarten. At Musical Me, we believe that music ability is as much a basic life skill as walking and talking, and that all children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate with pleasure and confidence in the music of their culture. Music Together classes nurture the child’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement as we sing, dance, chant, and play instruments in an informal setting that will enrich her musical environment and guide her towards a lifetime of music-making enjoyment.
What kind of things do we do in class?
In class we sing, dance, chant, and play along with provided instruments to a variety of music styles, melodies, and rhythms. You and your child will experience creative movement, improvisation, finger play, and lap songs. Above all else, we have fun while creating a rich and lively musical community.
Why aren’t there separate classes for different age groups?
In the 1980s Music Together pioneered the development of the mixed-age approach in early childhood music. In each class we strive to create a musically rich, developmentally appropriate environment where the whole family can enjoy music and nurture skills at the level right for each child. Mixed-age classes also provide a rich learning environment because children of different ages thrive when they interact with each other: the babies are often fascinated by the older child, and the "big" children enjoy helping and sharing with the "little" ones. This approach is based on research from music education, early childhood development, and family relationships, as well as our 20 years experience in the field.
How long is the program?
Each class meets once a week for forty-five minutes. The fall semester is twelve weeks, winter and spring semesters are ten weeks, and the summer semester is six weeks.
May I bring my three year old as well as my 10-month old to the same class?
Not only you may, but we encourage it! Research shows that children learn best in a mixed-age environment. Little ones learn by watching and imitating older children. Older children learn by being the "Big Kids™" and showing their younger peers how it is done. This family-style learning environment facilitates participation and involvement in the music for every child, at whatever developmental stage they may be.
What happens after we complete a semester?
A different song collection is used each semester, rotating every three years, so when you re-register you can look forward to expanding your repertoire with a variety of new songs and chants. Because your child will be at a different stage developmentally, an activity will be exciting to him, whether it is because of its familiarity or because he can grasp it in a new way.
May I bring a guest to class?
Yes! One of the great things about Music Together® classes is that tuition is based on each child, not person. Any child may bring their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or friends of the family. If they are over the age of 7, they may attend FREE!
How do I bring a guest under the age of seven?
If the child you would like to bring is under seven, then we consider them a participant. Each participant must be signed up for the class or on the make up scheduler. To attend as your guest, please sign your guest up on the make up scheduler. There is a $20.00 guest fee due at the beginning of class for each guest under seven. “Cash or checks made out to MusicalMe, Inc in the amount of $20/guest can be given to the instructor prior to the beginning of class. If possible, please let your teacher know that you are planning on bringing a guest (under seven) and will pay the guest fee when they arrive. ***We are unable to accommodate guests in our FULL classes. Please sign up you and your guest in a class where space is available.
May I choose a different time/day every week?
After you have enrolled at a certain day of the week and time, that is the class you will be expected to attend. Since classes build on themselves through the session and children get to know the teacher and the other children with their parents, we ask that you stick to your class day/time.
May I switch my class after the session has begun?
There are many reasons why someone may need to switch classes - work, family commitments, naps, etc. Yes! Switching is permitted as long as there is space available in the class you wish to move to and have cleared this with the office with which you registered through.
What happens if my child or I am sick?
If you or your child is sick 24 hours before your scheduled or make up class-PLEASE stay home. You may schedule a make up online for the class you missed or cancel your make up class up to 5 minutes before the scheduled class time. To see our complete health policy, see health policy.
May I bring my older child to class to sit on the side and watch if he/she is too sick to go to school?
If any child is too sick to go to school, they are too sick to come to our classes. Please schedule a make up class for the registered child.
Make Up Classes
How many makeup classes can I schedule?
Our generous make up policy allows you to make up 2 missed classes per session. Sign up for your make up online with the pass code given to you by your teacher. You may make up a class in any of our 9 locations and with any of our fabulous teachers. Make ups are not transferable and must be completed within the registered semester.
How do I cancel a make up class?
You may cancel your make up class up to 5 minute before the class begins. Log onto the make up scheduler and click on the “Cancel Make Up” tab.
Can I schedule a make up for a class I missed last term?
All make ups must be completed within the current session and may not be carried over.
I already have the music of this session, do I need to pay the lab fee?
Some of our classes require a lab fee. This fee is a non-negotiable fee and is required on the first day of class; whether you take the materials (songbook/CD) or not. Your registration is considered incomplete until the lab fee is paid.
